ROYAL E. SMITH
SCHOLARSHIP
ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA:

Applicant must be the son, daughter, or legally adopted child, of an active or retired letter carrier. Stepchildren are eligible if they live with the member in a regular parent-child relationship.

Applicant's parents must be a member in good standing of NALC at least one year prior to making application.

Applicant must be a high school senior when making application and must submit the form provided below, signed by the NALC member and an officer of the member's NALC branch.

All applicants must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) in either thier junior or senior year, and a copy of the original printout of the scores from the Admission Testing Program of the College Board must be received by midnight, April 15, 2009.

Scholarship is to be used toward pursuing undergraduate degree at an accredited college of recipient's choice.

Winner may accept other college scholarship assistance in addition to the NALC award.

Scholarship Awards will be up to $800.00 annually, renewable for three consecutive years providing winner maitains satisfactory grades. Awards money will be deposited annually with the college. It will be credited to winner's account to be drawn upon under the rules and regulations which the college has established for handling scholarship funds. Award money is to be used for required college fees.

2007 Royal E. Smith Scholarship Awarded

Darion Harper, son of Ronney Harper a Letter Carrier assigned to the Northside Station in the City of Atlanta was awarded the 2007 Royal E. Smith Scholarship.

Darion plans on attending Perimeter College in Atlanta, GA for the first semester, then transferring to Tennessee Technical University in
Cookeville, TN in the second semester. 

Darion plans on majoring in Physical Education.
